PeterNeither Amulet, Nor Talisman

Superficially, it could seem that Peter Machata’s most recent jewelry are amulets or talismans.  However, can we definitively say that their objective is to bring luck or to divert bad luck? They rather bring together several, perhaps even antagonistic or non-concentric (as is the custom with this artist) meanings. He will again “point the finger” here, but this time as the personification of a specific person whose characteristics he will specify and tune through their participative role in the concept of the work. Because, in addition to providing their fingerprints, the participants in this cooperative jewelry game were supposed to supply an object/item which was close to them, which evoked something essential in them or which was simply something that they wanted to pass on.  And with these items Peter Machata composes, mounts and creates jewelry, which are a peculiar and authentic portrait and which in his perspective represent a continuously pursued line of layering or networking of the work and a perception of the jewelry by professional artists or the persons wearing them. And in this participative, flexible and permeable system, you will eventually decide on your own if you want your jewelry to be an amulet or a talisman.
